Robots — Hey, Why Robots?
Because they're cute, wise and continually disappointed?
Just like us?

Robots? Why Robots

It’s what I ask myself. If I remember correctly, it wasn’t my idea. NightCafé was the one one who brought it up: They kindly offer prompts that you — the user — might like and that you can readily use to keep your streak alive!

Streaks!

Streaks are a splendid idea to keep all creative minds hooked: Basically it’s a platform rewarding you for everyday use.

So robots it is. I cannot get away from them. They sum it up so neatly: The humanoid machine, the suffering sentient being, the superhuman intelligent creature stuck in a dystopian wasteland – aren’t they us, in a way? And aren’t they the future? And is this not everything eating iteself? No? OK then, that’s a “no” then …

I’ve spent hours crafting the perfect prompt, adjusting lighting, specifying angles, even begging the algorithm to “please, just make the fingers look normal.” But the AI, in its infinite wisdom, keeps giving me the same uncanny valley horrors. It’s not just me—scroll through NightCafe or any AI art community, and you’ll see the same quirks repeated ad nauseam. Why is it so hard to get a simple, realistic hand? Is the AI secretly laughing at us?

What I’ve realized is that these glitches aren’t just bugs; they’re a reminder that AI isn’t magic. It’s a tool, and like any tool, it has limits.

The frustration is real, but so is the weird charm of these imperfections. Maybe the wonky hands and floating limbs are part of the medium’s fingerprint, a sign that this art is born from collaboration between human and machine.

So, I’ve made peace with the glitches. They’re a humbling reminder that creativity isn’t about perfection—it’s about the process. And sometimes, the process includes a six-fingered hand holding a cup of coffee.

The truth is: Of course I haven’t! How could anybody put up with the stubborn faultiness that seems to impair man and machine alike?
